Hello My little chickens.

Through my sporadic correspondence with a small cross-section of you over the past week, you may ave heard that I am coming down to Melbourne in October. There is an Austrlian Linguist Society Conference on in Adelaide in the last week of Sept, afterwhich I will make my way across to sunny (:P) Melbourne. I am very excited and look forward to seeing all youse guys.

If you haven't heard from me in a while, it's because I've been flat out at work, and got sick to boot. In the middle of all that, I found myself in Humpty Doo for jjj's AWOL concert with Something for Kate, Missy Higgins, Blue King Brown and *sorry, unearthed AWOL band from Alice - forgot your name*. 'Twas heaps-o-fun.

So Anyhoo.... guess I'm trying to say that I'll see you in Oct. Huzzah!

Hey there all you wonderful people out there in BloggerLand! Rob here, that's right ol FanBoy is back. I've been having such an amazing, challenging and inspiring time studying at the Actors Centre up here in Sydney, I've got so much stuff to tell you all about. So much so that I couldn't possibly fit it all on this post. So, I'm going to be coming home to Heathmont to tell you all about it face to face!! I've been missing Melbourne and missing all of you guys. I'm so very sorry I haven't been in touch much at all, but don't forget you guys are constantly on my mind.

Hooch came to visit a little while ago when she came over for her conference in Parramatta and it was great to have her around. (Interestingly; my house mate, Stephen, will be heading to Darwin very soon for a wedding, and he tells me that he'll be catching up with Euge then) Plus I hope to see AJ and Simon when they come up soon.

I'll be touching down in Tullermarine on Saturday the 23rd (That's just under three weeks away!!), at about 8:45pm. Just in time for a night out on the town me thinks...

I'll be staying in town for a week, so I hope to be doing plenty of catching up in that time.

I hope you're all keeping weel and are having a good time in whatever adventure you're in.

You guys are the Best Friends Ever!

I got my present today and am now full of a mushy feeling that has nothing to do with the jam or chocolate in the box of bits.

I started opening the box at work, then realized that I would be exclaiming oohs and aahs at the discovery of every new treasure. So I packed up the box and waited till I got home. I then chuckled to myself as I opened every thing one by one.

AJ - I just loved the photos. So exciting about your car. Can't wait to go for a spin in it when I'm in Melb. Haven't listened to the CD yet, but am looking forward to it.

Will - have seen the cartoon before but absolutely loved the way you pulled all the aspects of humour together. Should I be worried that dirty jokes remind you of me?

Kel and Luke - Your picture made me laugh. I will be putting it, and the other things from the box, up on my wall when I move into my new place (in the next week).

Kim&Josh - Unfortunately I got hte package after my birthday, but thanks for the message - it made me smile :)

Dee - Thank you Thank you Thank you for organizing all the bits. I love you and miss you, and look forward to chatting soon o'er the vast space between us via that wonderful invention, the telephone.

Well, if anyone's around and reading this, you can disregard the post below. Here are new plans.

This Friday night, 23rd March, dinner at 7:30pm
Dinner at Camy Shanghai Dumpling House, then some drinks afterwards, probably next door at Section 8.

Camy has really cheap, but very tasty food, and also a nice selection of young, arty, tasty diners to sneak peeks at between sips of green tea. It's on Tattersalls Lane in Chinatown, which runs between Lonsdale and Little Bourke streets, near the corner of Swanston Street towards the Parliament Station end of the city. If you can't find it give me a call.

I'd really love to see as many people as possible, as it's been ages since I've had proper chats with everyone. If you can't make it for dinner, come afterwards for drinks Oh, and feel free to bring friends, girlfriends, boyfriends, crushes, enemies, prostitutes, random Emos from the steps of Flinders Street...

Hello everyone, I hope all are well! I feel like I've been slightly on another planet of late, with work, and haven't seen anyone.

So, my big news is that I'm moving! I'm packing up all my stuff and heading out to Fairfield. I'll be having a housewarming BBQ when I'm settled in, but before then I'd really love a night to hang out and catch up. Perhaps tea and dessert at my house (in Vermont) one night later this week. Thursday or Friday suit me, as I'll be moving all my stuff in on the weekend, but I'd like to see as many people as possible. So let me know if you're free!

As much as Dan and I love Japan, it's driving us crazy, so after a short stint in Tokyo (to see if it's all of Japan or just this area that drives us crazy), we will be coming home. You can expect us in June!

Just as I had decided to have a Mad Hatter's Tea Party for my going away theme, I received an sms from Johnny 'Do Ya Want Some' More saying that he's having a Mad Hatter's Tea Party for his birthday. So I hastily changed my plans...

As some of you may or may not know, I have recently been collecting pirates. Not physically, just building up a list in my head of the pirates that I know, i.e. the Dread Pirate Roberts, Le Chuck, Capt. Jack Sparrow, etc.
So I've decided to have a
Pirates' High Tea
instead.

The Rules:
- You must bring a pirate for my collection.
- You get minus points if you double up with a pirate someone else has already brought.
- You may invent your own pirate, but ensure you bring a profile as well as a name (bonus points for inventiveness; minus points if you forget to bring a profile)

I will endeavour to publish a list of the pirates after the event.

So what are the details? I hear you ask. Well...

Hi Everyone

I haven't posted for some time and I haven't sent an email for awhile either. This is less of an update and more of a bunch of random things.

First a bit about some of the kids I've taught.
At the moment (at the smaller school) I am helping a girl named Rikako with preparing for her high school entrance exam English interview test. English is her favourite and strongest subject so getting together with her at lunch breaks and after school doesn't feel too much like extra work. I was surprised when she told me that our interactions remind her of the ' Babel' story. I thought it was funny that she assumed I was Christian and knew the story (I know it now but I didn't before).
There's a girl at the other school named Erika. Her English is great but she hates to study. She basically ignores the teacher in class and does whatever she feels like. She told me that his classes are boring(she's right). Erika and her friends keep me up to date on who's with who and what the 'gangsters' are up to.

There are boys at both my schools that propose to me on a regular basis. One of them Daiki (from the smaller school), has now taken to asking "size cup? B? C? D?" and saying "nice body" whenever I pass him. Some of the boys tease each other about fancying me and also ask if I "play sex."
I asked a few kids in class today (at the big school) what they were going to do on the weekend. The responses I got were 'play basketball', 'game' (video games), 'I don't know' and 'Sex. With my honey. She is Noriko'. I was a little surprised at that last response but not entirely as this kid Takuya is a 'gangster'.
At the bigger school there is a charismatic fellow named Rikiya who says "you are my honey". He wants to be a movie star. He has friends named Kohei and Takafumi who go to the other school so they always ask if I've seen the other(s). It's a good talking point. Rikiya told me that Kohei is cool and Takafumi is strong.
There are a few stand out kids at both schools but still plenty whose names I can't remember or just haven't learnt. They all wear name tags on their uniforms but it's all kanji so there are very few names I can recognize. There are a couple whose first names are written in hiragana so I can read those.

I still see a lot of the elementary school kids when I go shopping. I remember about three of the thousand or so I taught.
I can't remember if I told the story of the little boy who couldn't pronounce 'this' so I'll tell it here.
I was teaching (2nd grade I think) colours. One genki little fellow volunteered to stand in front of the class and ask them 'What colour is this?' Unfortunately he had trouble pronouncing 'this'. The little fellow stood in front of the class and asked them 'What colour is shit?'. I had trouble holding back a laugh and so did the two other teachers in the room. I can't remember what colour flash card he was holding.

Bayswater Roller City nine years on.....

Eug spoke about letting all those ex-roller skaters know about our excursion to Baywater Roller City. I offered, however I seem to have turned a brief rundown into a short essay. Skim if you feel the need!

Baywater Roller City nine years on……

Turning left into the car park bought back memories of quickly brushing my hair and reapplying my lip-gloss, while Mum tells me she’ll be waiting in the car park after the last speed skate to pick me up. It reminds me of getting a pass out, sneaking behind the back and having a cigarette from one of the boys from school, of Tully – yuck! Of Dwyan – yuck (spelling?)! Of excitingly looking out the car window to see who was there and hoping that the queue to get in wasn’t too big.

We walked through the front door, for two of us child-like excitement filled us to the brim while for the other a mixture of slight embarrassment and ‘what happens if someone sees us’ surrounded eagerness (Rob met us there. Can you guess who was who?)

The place still smells the way it always did. I can’t actually pin point what it smells like – a mixture of sweat, rink polish and leather perhaps?

I put my hired roller skates after visiting the Boot Room for a pair of size 10. I skated around feeling not as easy as a thought I would. After about 10 mins I was going around a corner when I felt that one wheels was loose. I quickly rolled off the rink and I sat down next to Eug. I put my skate up onto the seat and said to Eug ‘I feel like my wheel is going to come off’. I gave my wheel a weak push and it caused the whole front metal piece holding both wheels on to completely come off. Eug and I could do nothing but laugh! The screw holding the whole front part of the boot had actually snapped! Yes snapped not unscrewed. If half of my left skate had come off while I was on the rink I would possibly be writing this from a hospital bed. …About 10 minutes later Luke realised his front wheel was loose as well.

Part of the ‘want’ to re-expereince our Roller City days was the food and games – Killer Pythons (Luke shouted us all one, ‘cheers’-ing our snakes to ‘old times’), Slurpys and Sundaes. About half way though the night came the game Corners. When the music stops you all have to skate into a corner and one person throws a Frisbee towards a witches hat in the middle of the rink. The corner with the one the furtherest away looses. After about 3 rounds I found myself in a corner alone until a ‘cool dude’ skates over from another corner and tells me to give him the Frisbee and he’ll throw it. I said ‘No – go back to your own corner’. Anyway….in the end I win and instead of a first prize sundae (which I would have won going back 9 years ago) I get a small crappy souvenir koala bear which I give away to a small kid.

The greasy haired DJ/ Boot Room Attendant, his black inline skates so loose around his rather large legs that I’d thought he’d be able to just step out of them did dim the lights low and spin the disco ball slowly, however he did not call a couple skate. While Luke and I did hold hands for about a quarter of a song but it certainly didn’t hold the romance that is would have if ‘Because you love me’ played over the speaker.

While speaking of this greasy haired DJ / Boot Room Attendant I feel I need to add a short ‘add-on’ story. One young, long blonde haired girl about the age of 16 (so I thought anyway) was wearing a corset, pink and black lace which tied up at the back with ribbon. This greasy haired guy says ‘its like a French kiss down under’. YYYUUUUCCCCKKKKK!!!!!!!

I realise looking back that I certainly wasn’t in the cool group at the rink. I noticed this time round that most of the girls just hung around up near the DJ Box chatting, not once coming on to the rink. These girls looked very ‘cool’. Personally I couldn’t be bothered spending $10 and not skating.

The second realisation from Friday night was the fact that I will certainly be one of those ‘You’re not going out in that!’ kinds of mothers. I have to admit I was a little shocked at the attire of some of the girls….Eug and I both agreed that the worst we ever came in was jeans and a tight singlet tops (…although in second thoughts these were before the days of wearing black tops which just covered my not-so-there-yet boobs at Baby Jooce). Still I think I’d be slightly concerned if my teenage daughter went out in clothes I saw Friday night.

Mobile phones are also a new experience at Bayswater Roller City for us ‘old’ ones. Luke and Rob both has concerns of phones falling out of pockets and smashing over the rink. The ‘young’ ones however seemed to embrace this technology and smsed while skating, one girl even holding a conversation while on the rink with someone not within Roller City.

Apple Carting doesn’t seem to be any longer, they were all hanging up at the back of the boot room and when I went up to the Food Bar to collect my ‘fabulous’ prize for winning Frisbees I asked a teenage boy beside me if they still do the Bus Stop. He looked at me blankly. I decided I’d leave that conversation right there. And this is where I will leave my reminiscence of Bayswater Roller City….still way much better than the Caribbean Rollarama!

St Kilda Festival Returns

An orange poster caught her eye: 'Bringing the festival back!' it proclaimed, but as to the line-up, the poster had naught to tell about it.

...So she scoured the shops of Ackland St* for a brochure with the line-up. Then, finding naught, she delved into Inpress thinking, 'surely there'll be at least a page add with the line-up in here...'. but after perusing every page, again she found naught.

After such a naughty experience, she had almost lost hope. However, she realised there was one avenue left open to her which she had not yet explored: The Internet. And to her delight, found the gold she had been panning for:

So who's in? It's running from 3rd-11th Feb, I'll be endeavouring to attend several days (my priorities being the first and the last).

The line-up includes the Spiegel-experienced Martin Martini and the bone palace ochestra, deadly award nominee Dan Sultan, oldtimers Four Play, and that's just the World Music Stage! There's also: Custom Kings, The Audreys, The Gurge and Dallas Crane on the Max stage; And jjj-airplayed SSPecker on the New Music stage. That's just a taste of what's in store!

There's heaps of other cool stuff, and it's much more community base this year: with lots of vouchers and discounts that can be used in the local shops, pubs and food outlets. Let's round off our summer with a bang ppl, this is where it's at!

Ah, good ol' Roller City Bayswater!

NEW DATE

Like Homer has Moes, Jerry has the Diner and the Dude has the bowling alley, we once had Roller City. We were still in High School and it was the time of techno music, the Nutbush, the Bus stop, the Macarena, speed skates, couples skates, sweaty used hire skates and girlfriends from Aquinas College. It was fun, memorable and kinda odd times for all and all who joined in!

It's been talked about for a while now and as I may not get another chance, I invite you to join me on Friday the 26th at 7:30pm @ 37 Scoresby Road Bayswater, to rip up the rink once more. It's only $9 each with skate hire $1/$2 extra. It'd be great to see you all there even if you weren't a roller City regular...

...and who knows, there might even be a song dedication or two.

DVD night: What a dreadful movie....

Hi guys,

It's back! I'm having a DVD night this Wednesday. That's right - Tomorrow night!

I have many DVD's to choose from, and hopefully you'll bring the cream of your collections as well. If all else fails, we can watch the Young Ones or listen to the Goon Show (hmm....thinks to herself, "am I going to end up all alone on Wednesday?").

I do have a request to make of you fine film buffs: Would you please be so kind as to dread my hair? I have four dreads on the go, and I know it's just going to take ages to do a whole head of hair if I don't get a little help from my friends.

PERIDOT THEATRE - ACTORS COURSE

Are you a budding actor?
Do you love theatre and want to know more about it?
Do you want to improve your communication skills?

Peridot Theatre is preparing its successful Future Development Course for 2007 under the tutelage of the experienced actor and drama teacher, Phillippa Adgemis. The course covers stagecraft, voice and character development, body language, improvisation, script analysis and interpretation. It runs for ten weeks, culminating in a short four-performance season at Peridot's Unicorn Theatre from 15th – 18th March.
The next course commences on Monday, 15th January 2007 and runs on Monday and Wednesday evenings from 7.30 to 10.00pm. The cost is $120 and includes general membership of Peridot Theatre for the year. Auditions will be at Peridot's Unicorn Theatre, Lechte Road, Mt. Waverley (Melways Map 61 ref F11) on January 8th by appointment. Audition pieces will be emailed on receipt of the audition form which can be downloaded from the site, completed and sent to: phillippaadgemis@hotmail.com
There are limited places, and whilst the course is specifically designed for those who have left school, consideration will be given to all those who show particular interest and potential. No previous experience is necessary.
Peridot has been successfully running the Future Development for several years and many graduates have gone on to perform at Peridot and other Companies, sometimes in lead roles, or have become involved in Stage Management and Technical Roles, having had their interest and awareness of non-professional theatre kindled by involvement in this excellent course.

Xmas Dinner Fri 23rd Dec

It can’t turn the 25th of Dec before celebrating with friends! So…coffee at Barclays this weekend bought Dee, Eug and 1 to the conclusion of a ‘Warrandyte Fish n Chips Xmas dinner’ this Friday night (23rd).

The plan is to head down about 6.30 ish, meet at the fish n chip shop, and then grab the picnic rug (plus insect repellent) and head down to a relaxing dinner beside the river.

Today I got sent an email from three thousand magazine (if you've never heard of it go now and subscribe, it's free, it's web based, and it's all about cool stuff going down in Melbourne!) about a new Rooftop Cinema that's opening. It looks like a really awesome summer concept, and I'd love to go along one (or more!) night(s) in December to see some of the cool films they're playing.

Visit rooftopcinema.com.au, have a look at the program and let me know if there's anything that particuarly sparks your interest. There's a Bill Murrathon which looks ultra cool, as well as a whole heap of awesome old movies I've yet to see. I'm not sure how fast tickets will sell out, but possibly quickly if the concept proves a popular one.

Sim and I have arrived in NYC. Yesterday (Saturday), we went on Kramer's Reality Tour. The 'real' Kramer (Kenny Kramer) has set up a tour bus where fans of Seinfeld are able to join him and tour NYC and see the sights that inspired stories from Seinfeld. Kenny Kramer was the inspiration for Kosmo Kramer on the show...

Last night we saw a Broadway show: The Color Purple. It was a very last minute thing to see it and we queued up for half price tickets before making a very quick dash down Broadway to see the show. It was really well done and a very powerful story, based on the novel of the same name.

Today (Sunday) we are planning to take a 3-hour cruise around Manhattan island, to get some good photos of the Statue of Liberty etc. Tomorrow, we may visit Ground Zero and look around south Manhattan.

We're having an awesome time.

Hi everyone,

a BIG hello from sunny LA!! It really is sunny - hot actually. Not smoggy at all...
We arrived yesterday morning (Sunday morning at 7:30am). Today (Monday) Sim and I went to Universal Studios and did so much there. It was really fun. Got some cool and daggy photos with Shrek and Princess Fiona, went on the Back to the Future Ride and The Mummy Returns Ride. All very cool. Ate dinner at Hard Roch Cafe just near Universal. It's all so interesting and everything is just as you see in the movies - palm trees everwhere.

Out hotel is right near the Walk of Fame, Kodak Theatre and Mann's Chinese Theatre. Very close to the Hollywood sign. People on the street trying to sell everyone bus tours of Hollywood Hills to go past the homes of celebrities. May be interesting....

Overall, first full day in USA has been realy cool and fun. Having a great time.

In case you don't remember I'm the bike guy who buggered off almost a year ago. To East Timor. I managed to save an airfare from Melbourne to Darwin and ride to Cairns instead. Yes, my middle name is serendipity.

Is there still a bit of a meeting every so often at Hooch's place? If you're nice I'll skip the dreadful 4 hour slideshow :) Nah, really I'm up for some high-brow cultural films (and chats -- glad to see this blog get contraversial btw!) I've discovered there's only a small island of something resembling culture in the country, and it's called Melbourne.

Hey there everyone. As some of you may or may not know, I will be auditioning for the Actors Centre in Sydney this year, for this I am needing to make an audition video. I have a camera (thank you very very much hooch!!), I have a space (St Martins Rehearsal Room) and a date and time (Sunday the 5th of November from 5pm till 8pm).

Now all I need is one or two people, one person to operate the camera, and maybe one person to act to during my audition speeches (you'll just need to stand somewhere close to and behind camera for an eye-line) and if anyone has some editing software and can burn DVD's that would be awesome. I know I am asking a big favor and I know a lot of you are very busy this time of year, but I would be extemely grateful for any help I can get for this.

Later that year, he gave the band (the Jazz Cat) a weekly gig at his jazz club, Dizzy's. Sedergreen obviously has a sharp ear for talent: four members of the Jazz Cat went on to form the extraordinarily successful Cat Empire. All four - with special guest Harry Angus, the Cat Empire's charismatic trumpeter and vocalist - were back at Dizzy's on Monday for a terrifically entertaining concert, reuniting the original Jazz Cat crew for the first time in more than two years. Cat Empire founder Felix Riebl (who now shares Empire vocal duties with Angus) remained ensconced in his percussion chair, conjuring up some irresistible Latin and groove-based themes with an impossibly energetic rhythm section, electric guitar and four firing horns. Sedergreen added riffs on electric piano, and Harry Angus leapt on stage to engage Ross Irwin in a kinetic trumpet duel. Angus also stepped up to the mike (on vocals) for Summertime, irreverently prodding Gershwin's classic into a ska-inflected groove with his imaginative, rhythmic scatting.''

Call out to all who use tinned food from time to time... this is the week for you! I'm trying to locate as many empty tin cans as I can.

To fill you in I'm doing props for another VCA film, this one is based in WW2, and has a shot of soldiers making jam tin can bombs... this is where im calling on the help of all you lovely folk.. If you can save any empty cans, all sizes welcome, some maybe with lids still attatched- I will be forever greatful.

If you have any luck I was hoping that i could do a drive by on Tuesday night to give the ol' can a second chance, before it hits the recycling wheely bin of doom.

My next choir concert (II)

Seeing as my 16th of September choir concert has been somewhat buried under a pile of other posts (which, is great, don't get me wrong: I love that people are using the blog, that's what it's here for), I thought I'd post againt and give you the spiel.

It's going to be an awesome concert, seriously.

We're singing the Rachmaninov Vespers (that's cool, I hear you say)
It's going to be a cappella - That's right, no orchestra, just voices! (even cooler)
It's at BMW Edge - uh huh: FEDERATION SQUARE! (sounds like just the night out I'm after)
It's only $18 concession (whoa! usually you'd pay at least $50, or perhaps $100 for that kind of gig)
There's also a cello sonata by Shostakovich, and we're doing some folk tunes by Svesnikov (these tunes are heaps of fun).
All the choral works WILL BE SUNG IN RUSSIAN!! (so come and hear me test my slavic accent)

Can nothing go right for us in this little hick town????

We can't get the internet because all the connections in this area are used. Figure that out?! But the guy said maybe we can go with another company, and if we are home on the first they can connect then but of course that's our first day back at school.
Dan has a day off on the 11th (because he has to work on a saturday) so maybe then we will get the internet but I'm not getting my hopes up.
We are at the bloody internet cafe again that pisses me off more and more each time we come here.
I'm so ready to throw in the towel and head back home but dan wants to see it through and spend another year here, but definately not in this town or even this prefecture. Our company and schools love us and are already talking about next year but there is no way in hell I'll spend another year in the shittiest shithole of Japan.

We call on US President Bush, UK Prime Minister Blair and the UN Security Council to support UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan's call for an immediate ceasefire and an international force to stabilize the situation.

The trial of three additional products in NSW and two in Victoria is seen as a way for Coles to further test the market on Fairtrade – if it works their range is likely to increase and provide a major boost for Fairtrade.

What Kel Wants for Xmas

What’s the best place to be when the sun is out at Xmas time? Wilsons Prom!

Luke and I are planning to head down for about five nights within the first two weeks after Xmas and would absolutely love if some of our friends come along.

We plan on camping, but I think there are cabins down there as well (will need to move quickly seems its peak season).

I went down there on Grade 5 and 6 Camp and still remember the beautiful day hikes! There are quick 1 hour walks up a mountain to watch the sunset and other full day hikes which take you through bush then out into beach coves where you can go for a dip, before heading back into the bush! These camps I still remember as its simply beautiful!

We’d love to get a group and spend the days at the beach or in the bush and the nights sitting around the camp, drinking, talking, laughing, enjoying each others company!

As its peak season camp sites will also fill quickly. If you can only come for a few nights that’s cool too! If you are interested at all please let either Luke or I know as we are keen to make this a group thing! Of course partners, work friends, cousins and more are all welcome – the more the merrier!

Hello Fellow Movie lovers....

I know it's been a while (much more than one month, I apologise) so I thought I'd bring back the tradition we all know and love: The DVD night.

We're still half about half way through the Kubricks - thusfar we have watched Paths of Glory, Clockwork Orange, 2001:A Space Oddysey, Lolita and Dr Strangelove. Still to go are Barry Lindon (which goes for 4hrs or something ridiculous), The Shining (delisciously scarey, but perhaps not everybody's cup of tea), Full Metal Jacket (very violent, again with the tea comment), Eyes Wide Shut (lots of sex, more tea), finally there is Stanley Kubrick: A Life in Pictures - a doctumentary on the man himself (I imagine it would be very interesting).

Kellie it’s your birthday, happy birthday Kellie (if only Michael Jackson sang that to me like on The Simpsons)….yes, I know I’ve just made the majority of you cringe with disgust.

I’m going out for a fun night on the town with my pals on Friday 21st of April – this coming Friday.

I’m heading for The Retreat Hotel, 280 Sydney Rd, Brunswick for a 7.30ish dinner. The pub is a little bit shabby and retro on the inside with a big beer garden out the back (I’m hoping for a clear mild night!). Meals should satisfy both herbivores and carnivores. Followed by a quick walk a couple of blocks up to The Spot 133 Sydney Rd for a bit of a serious boogie.

Hope this gathers a large group, we all seem to be so busy (myself included of course) so I hope we can all gather and enjoy!....and did I say have a boogie?

I know for us people in Heathmont it’s a bit of a hike but I’d love to see you all there to boggie with.

Hey there people. Mitcham Theatre Group is currently running a season of a production of the play CLOSER (the play, the film w/ Jude Law, Clive Owen, Julia Roberts and Natalie Portman, is based on) . I hope to go on Saturday the 8th (this Saturday), the show starts at 8:15pm. Though I would like to see it regardless, it's always better with company and it just may well be a cool little night out. Hey coolppls!

Don't know if this will interest any of you but thought it may be a fun thing to do together as a group.

Over the weekend of April 29th its the Heathmont Heritage Weekend - 80yrs since the opening of the railway station.

On Sat 29th between 10-11am the Heathmnt Buhlinks are planting indigenous heath and shrubs near the railway station to help maintain the area's natural character.

I'm sure you can guess...Heathmont got its name from being very hilly and covered in Heath. Canterbury rd use to be called Delaney's Rd and was the old stock route to the sheep and cattle areas in croydon. Dandenong's Creek is said mean high and lofty and they even had a dam down there where people went boating (a little upstream from H.E Parker)....can't imagine that now can you!!!!!

I'm doing one of my writing foilos for Masters on the history of my house...tracked down the builders son and the ringwood historial society are so much help! out house was built on Cham View Estate - how lovely!

So if you're keen! Bruncy/Lunch at my house afterwards.....just though it may be something nice to do. Let me know so I can tell the "heathmont Bushlinks" - its only for 1 hours out of a whole weekend!

What lengths would you go to, to protect yourself?

Step into the world of Nancy, public servant and writer of anti-terrorism pamphlets. For Nancy, normal life has become a potential battleground, where travelling beyond her front door is not as straight forward as it seems.

Then join Carolina, as she hosts a macabre dinner party, where she and her guests will practice for the end of the world. As the electricity is cut, and the night grows longer, Carolina uncovers a desperate method that may preserve all their lives in the event of a nuclear strike.

Finally meeting Lev, the beating heart who will live in an underground bunker for an eternity.

Cotton Wool and Camphor is an absurd tryptic of gruesome tales, that explore what effect the fear of terrorism has on Australian culture.

Platform Youth Theatre is a youth arts company based in the Northern Suburbs of Melbourne. Since its first production in 1998, Platform has created a niche for itself as a company admired for both its innovative approach and the quality of its work. Cotton Wool and Camphor is a result of a training and mentorship program supported by the Community Partnership Board of the Australia Council for the Arts.
