My next choir concert (II)

Seeing as my 16th of September choir concert has been somewhat buried under a pile of other posts (which, is great, don't get me wrong: I love that people are using the blog, that's what it's here for), I thought I'd post againt and give you the spiel.

It's going to be an awesome concert, seriously.

We're singing the Rachmaninov Vespers (that's cool, I hear you say)
It's going to be a cappella - That's right, no orchestra, just voices! (even cooler)
It's at BMW Edge - uh huh: FEDERATION SQUARE! (sounds like just the night out I'm after)
It's only $18 concession (whoa! usually you'd pay at least $50, or perhaps $100 for that kind of gig)
There's also a cello sonata by Shostakovich, and we're doing some folk tunes by Svesnikov (these tunes are heaps of fun).
All the choral works WILL BE SUNG IN RUSSIAN!! (so come and hear me test my slavic accent)

Contact me for tickets. If you're into any kind of music, you'll love it.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Can nothing go right for us in this little hick town????

We can't get the internet because all the connections in this area are used. Figure that out?! But the guy said maybe we can go with another company, and if we are home on the first they can connect then but of course that's our first day back at school.
Dan has a day off on the 11th (because he has to work on a saturday) so maybe then we will get the internet but I'm not getting my hopes up.
We are at the bloody internet cafe again that pisses me off more and more each time we come here.
I'm so ready to throw in the towel and head back home but dan wants to see it through and spend another year here, but definately not in this town or even this prefecture. Our company and schools love us and are already talking about next year but there is no way in hell I'll spend another year in the shittiest shithole of Japan.

Beck and Dan are still alive.

Hi everyone,

We still love you and will be able to let you know more frequently soon. It seems our internet will be connected at home in the coming week (fingers crossed!).

We' ve almost finished our 'summer vacation' (there is way too much American influence here). We will upload pics from our trip to Kyushu onto 'Shutterfly'.

This is on the computer of our friend Dave from Canada. He lives far away from us but it's closer than anyone else.

Anyhoo more details soon.

Please email me cos I'm getting bored and lonely out in the middle of nowhere.

Help Stop Human Rights Abuses Being Committed by Our Own Government

Hi coolppl, I just wanted to spread the word about GetUp's campaign against the new refugee policies the Government is trying to introduce. I've highlighted the important/interesting bits. So you don't need to read the whole thing (unless you want to).

When GetUp first set our biggest target ever of 100,000 signatures, people called it 'pie in the sky'. So, here's the deal: if you can get us to 100,000 names by next week's refugee Senate vote, we'll write it in the sky.

Already, nearly 90,000 of you have signed the petition to stop asylum seekers who arrive by boat, including children, from being sent into detention overseas.

Help put GetUp's petition message in the sky above Parliament House for next week's Senate vote! If you haven't already, click below to sign the petition, tell your friends or donate now to get us airborne!

www.getup.org.au/campaign/NoChildInDetention

We've booked a skywriter, checked all the legals and are ready to launch. All we need now is your support to create a message that will help determine the final outcome in this unique chapter of Australian politics.

Already, three Liberal MPs in the House of Representatives risked their careers to vote against this reprehensible Bill - a remarkable act of courage and defiance considering they knew it would not be enough to actually stop the legislation from reaching the Senate, where it can really be defeated.

GetUp has spent this last week in Canberra for meetings with all the key players. We've lobbied, consulted and coordinated, pulling together diverse groups of community leaders to make their views known and help exert pressure where it really counts. The Government only has a majority of one in the Senate and anything could happen now. Your support is absolutely crucial.

Help us get to 100,000 names by next week's vote and we will send up a message they can't ignore. Sign the petition now if you haven't already, and help spread the word (you can also donate to help us lift off).

www.getup.org.au/campaign/NoChildInDetention

Throughout this campaign, your actions have made all the difference. When the Government first introduced this legislation the pundits expected it to pass within a few weeks. But instead of throwing our hands up in the air, we rolled up our sleeves, and presented your then 33,000-strong petition to an all-star line-up of politicians from every major party. We came back, doubled our efforts and ramped it up again to more than 77,000 names just two weeks later. Amazingly, we are now at more than 87,500 signatures - and the sky really is the limit.

This is the final push and we're not backing down - we're taking off.

Let's finish this right. Help us get to 100,000 today, and we'll see you in the sky next week.

www.getup.org.au/campaign/NoChildInDetention

Thank you for your exceptional efforts, and we'll see you above Parliament House,

The GetUp team

Ceasefire Campaign

Just received this link from Dee. I thought I'd post it on here instead of emailing it out to everyone. Hopefully you've got time to put your name on the petition.

I've included a bit of a blurb from the website and a link.

Ceasefire Campaign
The world cannot allow the bloodshed in the Middle East to continue. Thousands of innocent civilians have been killed and wounded, almost 1 million made homeless, and a catastrophic larger conflict is possible. We call on US President Bush, UK Prime Minister Blair and the UN Security Council to support UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan's call for an immediate ceasefire and an international force to stabilize the situation.

There is a more detailed description on the website. It takes about 2 seconds to fill out, and represents the sentiments of everyone I know: Stop the fighting.

I know this isn't a political blog, but I'm up for a worthy cause. What about you?

Brekkie - 6 August?

Hi gang,

Just wondering if anyone would like to please meet up and have breakfast/brunch on Sunday, 6 August, meeting at say 10am?? Venue - still to be determined... Perhaps somewhere in the Eastland or Ringwood environs? Perhaps ZUKKA (ground floor) of Eastland? Does Balsamic do breakfast??

I really enjoyed the last breakfast outing we had, which would've been about a month ago now (WOW). Sorry for not seeing you lovely folk in so long...

Please comment if you're up for it and venue suggestions would be appreciated!!
All welcome.
